Colin Rochester was the founding Chair of the Voluntary Action History Society. He has worked in and with the voluntary sector for over forty years and is currently an Honorary Research Fellow in Social Policy at Birkbeck College, University of London.

Meta Zimmeck is a former VAHS Treasurer. She has spent many years researching, including for the Home Office and Carol Goldstone Associates and was a visiting fellow at the University of Roehampton’s Centre for the Study of Voluntary and Community Activity.

With George Campbell Gosling and Alison Penn, they edited ‘Understanding the Roots of Voluntary Action: Historical Perspectives on Current Social Policy’, published by Sussex Academic Press in 2011. With Bill Rushbrooke, they have recently founded the consultancy firm Practical Wisdom R2Z. You can browse their blog contributions below.
